Frederick the Great, Elizabeth I and HistFest 2024
Podcast, a call for questions and an update on the festival
Hello!
Today’s post is a little on the short side because we’ve been hard at work gearing up to launch the annual festival, HistFest 2024, which is set to take place at the British Library from 13th to 14th April, with a special event on 11th April as well. Tickets are going on sale soon, slightly later than usual this year, but we’re so excited to share this year’s line-up with you (more on this very soon). We have a fantastic mix of histories drawn from new research and books, as well as upcoming historical film and drama. They’ll be events exploring Second World War espionage, early modern courts, colonialism, pioneering figures in medicine and science, ancient worlds and wonders, as well as history on stage and screen, and much more. Tickets will be available to attend in-person and online. Â
LGBT+ History Month
To mark LGBT+ History Month here in the UK, we’re sharing a podcast episode with HistFest founder Rebecca Rideal and award-winning tour guide and curator Dan Vo. It is part of the series Killing Time and the episode looks at the life of Frederick the Great, King of Prussia. You can listen to it here.
Young Elizabeth with Nicola Tallis… Send Your Questions!
We’re really excited to have our first All Things History video event next week, with historian and author Dr Nicola Tallis. Nicola has a new book out looking at the early life of Queen Elizabeth I. With that in mind, please do submit your questions in the comments below. Is there anything you’d like to know about the Tudor world under Elizabeth? From politics, love affairs, scandal, and social histories - are there any parts of Elizabeth’s story you want to know more about?
Coming tomorrow…
Paid subscribers will have access to a brand new episode of All Things History podcast with Nathen Amin discussing Welsh history and his writing processes.
